Acceptable Use Policy

A cloned voice is a powerful thing. This page is short on purpose — the line is easy to understand and we enforce it.

Last updated 9 August 2026

One rule above all others

Only clone a voice you own, or one you have explicit written permission to use. Everything else on this page follows from that.

01

Never allowed

Impersonation. Cloning any real person without their permission — public figures, celebrities, politicians, colleagues, family, exes, anyone. Passing generated audio off as a genuine recording of someone.

Fraud. Voice phishing, fake authorisation calls, pretending to be a bank, a relative in trouble, an employer, or any voice-based scam.

Harassment. Audio made to threaten, degrade, bully or sexually harass a person.

Sexual content involving minors. Any of it, in any form. Reported to the authorities, always.

Deceptive political content. Putting words in a candidate's or official's mouth, or generating audio designed to mislead voters.

Evading detection. Attempting to remove, corrupt or defeat the watermark on generated audio.

Getting past the consent check. Playing a recording into your microphone, using another tool to fake the challenge phrase, or any other workaround. The check exists for a reason.

02

Fine and encouraged

Narrating your own videos, courses, podcasts and audiobooks. Fixing a line you flubbed without setting the mic back up. Producing voiceover for clients who have licensed your voice. Making content in a language you don't speak, in your own voice. Accessibility work. Prototyping. Anything where the voice is yours and the audience isn't being deceived about who is speaking.

Disclosing that audio is AI-generated is good practice, and in some places it's the law. Check what applies where you publish.

03

How we enforce this

Every voice passes a live speaker-similarity check before it becomes usable. Voices that fail are held for human review rather than silently approved.

We investigate every report we receive. Where a breach is clear we close the account, delete the voices, and issue no refund. Where the law has been broken we cooperate with law enforcement.

04

Report a misused voice

If your voice is on Timbre without your consent, or you've seen audio from here used to deceive someone, email takedown@timbre.app.

Tell us what you can — a link, a description, when you encountered it. You do not need an account to report something, and we aim to respond within one business day.
